What’s Coming UpThe “Trash or Treasures” Antiques Appraisal Comes to the Stratford Spring Home ShowOffered $250 15 years ago for her Rhinoceros horn cup, she chose at that time to keep it. But this past year when hearing the appraisal from John Sewell, author of highly successful syndicated column, This Old Thing!, she changed her tune, “If I can get what you say this is worth, I’ll be able to keep my house.” John has been buying, selling and appraising antiques and fine art for over 30 years. This Old Thing! is read by over two million Canadians every week in the Toronto Star and many other papers. He likes to tell people who ask, “I love it when I can change someone’s life and that’s what I like to write about.” As part of this year’s Stratford Spring Home Show, April 1st, 2nd and 3rd, John and three of his antique appraiser colleagues are launching the first Trash or Treasures Antiques Appraisal. Much like an Antiques Roadshow, people are invited to bring in their collectables for John and his team to appraise for free. Joining John will be Carl Booth of Glen Manor Galleries, Peter Land of Land & Ross Antiques both of Shakespeare and the illustrious James Bisback of Jonny’s Antiques in the Four Season’s Centre Toronto, Shakespeare and now a third store in Bayfield. Say’s Sewell, “If I had to rank them, I’d say Carl, Peter and James have to be in the top 5 antique appraisers in all of Ontario. We are very fortunate to have them living and working in the Stratford area.” Sewell and his colleagues are interested in all categories of antiques, including glass, porcelain, pottery, furniture, silver, textiles, lamps, clocks and watches, nostalgia, and artwork. This is the 28th year of the Stratford Spring Home show and it is presented by the Stratford radio stations, CJCS and MIX FM. There will also be a chance at the Home Show for attendees to try their hands at appraisals, as the Stratford Perth Museum is displaying items throughout the show. There will be prizes for those who can appraise them at closest to fair market value. The Stratford Spring Home Show opens on Friday April 1st and runs Saturday April 2nd and Sunday April 3rd at the Stratford Rotary Complex. The Trash or Treasures Antiques Appraisal takes place from 10am-noon and 2pm-4pm on Saturday and then 2pm-4pm on Sunday. ~~~ For more information:
